long time no speak

I think its fair to say I haven't posted in a while, been busy starting uni, working on new projects and getting settled in my new house!
I'm enjoying second year so far, glad to be doing more advertising based projects.
I'm currently working on a brief about the imbalance between human nature and the earth, i've been researching british farming, local produce and free range products.
This is an advert that stuck out for me..

Haven't posted a doodle for a while, this is a doodle of one of my favourite pairs of shoes, one of many I might add!

Gifted competition

This is my entry into the gifted competition, the brief was to design a gift bag that would be sold in Marks and Spencers. I decided to keep my design simple and created this hand sewn design. Hope you like it :)

I love the new advert from the natural confectionary company, its simple but funny! Plus they make nice sweets too.

A bear and an elephant

An unlikely friendship..
I drew this after a silly conversation with my boyfriend when we were saying if we were animals he would be an elephant because he eats loads of peanuts and I would be a bear because I eat loads of salmon!

The Brilliant Design lecture

Earlier in the year I went to the Brilliant Design lecture, thought i'd do a post about it because it was such a good day. The day consisted of 6 speakers talking their work and what inspired them as designers. My favorite speaker of the day was by far Mr Bingo, i liked his witty sense of humour and his quirky illustrations. To top the day of I won a poster signed by all the speakers!

First Year work - Typography

The module I enjoyed most this year was typography. I preferred this to the other modules because we were given more freedom in each of the brief's and it involved more designing than the other modules. I think I could have tried harder when I think back and probably started the work sooner! This is something I definitely want to change in second year. Anyway.. here's some work I produced throughout the year.

Type Trumps

I came across these on the firebox gadget website, I thought it was pretty cool so decided to share it!

Positive Posters Competition

I recently entered the Positive Posters competition, the brief was to design a positive poster in keeping with the theme 'A Glass Half Full'. I created a hand sewn piece of work which I then scanned into my mac, I'm definitely more of a hands on artist! Again because i'm pretty rubbish at photoshop I wasn't too sure how to tidy it up so I entered as it was, I think it would have looked better tidied up but I was happy with the image I created so I entered it anyway!

Rob Ryan

During the Yorkshire Sculpture Park project I visited the park with my group. Rob Ryan had an exhibition at the time we visited which I was very excited about as he's one of my favorite artists. I love his cut outs, I discovered his work while I was at Leeds College of Art, it inspired me to have a go at cut outs myself, this is a book I made during a project at college..

i like flowers

A doodle from a few months ago, i love floral patterns so thought i'd have a go myself!

First Year work - YSP Project

A project I particularly enjoyed was the Yorkshire Sculpture Park project. This was a group project where we were given a brief which was to encourage new target markets to join the friends scheme at the sculpture park. I think the group I was in worked well together compared to the previous group I was in for the Pearly Kings and Queens group project. I also think for this project we were given more freedom to express our idea's, we chose professional couples as our target audience and created a range of products for the home that were based around woodland creatures.

No Women No Peace competetion

This is my entry into the no women no peace competition. The competition was to create a piece of work that could be sent to politicians and seen by the public to get the message out that more women need to be involved in peacebuilding.
My piece is designed to be a postcard that could be sent out to the target audience. I chose to use the statue of liberty as the main feature because I think it's an image that is known across the world and symbolizes a strong powerful woman.
I'm quite happy with my entry, although the face looks a bit dodgy but me been a bit rubbish on photoshop i wasn't sure how to tidy it up!

Getting ready for second year!

As it's getting closer to the new term i'm getting myself ready for second year as an advertising design student, I can't wait to get stuck in! I felt a bit lost last year so i'm hoping this year i'll find my feet!
I bought this gorgeous little notebook from paperchase the other day, its brilliant! its got both lined and blank paper so perfect for notes and doodles plus its got a nice pattern on the front.

My Top 5 Favorite Blogs!

Seeing as my blog is just starting out, I thought i'd look at some other blogs to get some idea's of what other people in the world are doing! These are some I particularly enjoyed..

1.Print and Pattern
I've been following this blog for a long time now, although most of it is textile design it's exactly the kind of work I love, there's some beautiful work on it!

2. Packaging of the World
This is another blog I discovered a while ago, I love all the clever packaging designs, if only we could see more packaging like this in your local shop!

3. Happy loves Rosie
I came across this blog recently, anyone that knows me will know i love Cath Kidston and most vintagey things so when I found this blog I was amazed! This lady obviously puts a lot of effort into her blog!

4. I believe in Advertising
Well there had to be an advertising one somewhere in here! Although this blog isn't as visually exciting as the others there's some brilliant adverts featured on it!

5. Lobster and Swan
This is a blog by a photographer, she photographs florals, beautiful vintage things and cakes so naturally i love it!

In my spare time I have a bit of a doodle in my notebook, i'm no illustrator just something I enjoy! Oh and I only ever use brown paper not sure why i'm just not a fan of blank white paper! Anywho this is Gary, i drew him earlier this year, after watching some zoo programme on telly I decided giraffe's are pretty cool :)

Review of first year

It's gone so quick but my first year of uni is over!
Although the course wasn't what I was expecting, i've enjoyed it my first year. When I started the year I was expecting to be involved in more design projects and projects relating to advertising whereas it was more group based projects.
Over the year I think i've learnt; to work as group on a brief, new ways of developing concepts, photoshop and illustrator skills and more about myself as a designer.

Images from my favorite projects coming soon...

Your probably wondering..

What i've been up to so far this summer!
Well..
I went on holiday to Egypt which was amazing to see all the sites such as the pyramids and do a spot of snorkeling in the coral reefs plus it was nearly 40 degrees everyday which is always nice!

I've also been on a day few trips, had a trip to the good old british seaside that is Scarborough!
Also had some amazing days out at the best theme parks in the country, Alton Towers and Thorpe Park.

I also recently moved into my student house in Huddersfield! It's great just needs a few homely touches.

Now down to the creative stuff..
